Caitríona McClean

TUI

Dear Catriona McClean

We are writing to you on behalf of Teachers Union of Ireland members at Lucan Community College, in the constituency of Dublin Mid-West.

We be taking strike action in conjunction with our colleagues nationally on the Tuesday 4th February, in order to highlight the pay discrimination against those employed in new entrant grades since 2011 who are teaching and lecturing.

The strike action to be taken by all TUI members, is in respect of two of the outstanding factors that give rise to that discrimination:

  • The absence of incremental recognition for periods of unpaid, pre-service training.

  • The remaining differences between the scales for new entrants and the scales for their peers in the same grades who were appointed before 2011, in terms         particularly of the values of early scale points. This affects the eight new entrant grades represented by the TUI.

We are contacting all candidates in Dublin Mid – West General Election 2020, to ask you give us your commitment if elected to the next Dáil, to work to end pay inequality for teachers and lecturers. We will publicize these, to our members and to local media. Please send us your response by close of business on Monday Jan 3rd.

We would like to invite candidates who make these commitments, to join us on our picket, outside the school to show your support. Please let us know what time you will be attending.

Yours sincerely,

Rose Duggan and Peter Callaghan – Lucan CC TUI Reps
